It is graded by NGC as MS-64 and is certified by CAC. The coin in the above pictures is the one you will receive. The Texas Independence Centennial Half Dollar had a rather ambitious maximum authorized mintage of 1,500,000 pieces, well above the modest levels of other recent issues. Eventually, the coin would be struck in five different years across three different Mint facilities. Most collectors consider the Texas Half Dollar to have one of the most beautiful or at least ornate designs with the series of early commemorative coins. Designed by Texas sculptor Pompeo Coppini, the obverse features an eagle clasping an oak branch with a large star in the background. The inscriptions around the image include “United States of America”, “Half Dollar”, “E Pluribus Unum”, “In God We Trust”, and the date. The central figure on the reverse of the coin is the kneeling figure of winged Victory. In her right hand is a spray of laurel, while her left hand rests on a representation of the Alamo. Beneath each of Victory’s wings are portraits of the Texas heroes Sam Houston and Stephen Austin. More than 200,000 pieces were struck by the Philadelphia Mint, but after sales reached 61,436, the remaining quantity was sent back for melting. Despite declining sales, the same coins would be struck and offered for the next three years. All issues remain relatively available today, with a premium attached to the low mintage 1938-dated coins. Texas Centennial Half Dollar Coin Specifications. The coin in the above pictures is the one you will receive. Commemorative coins were authorized to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the admission of Arkansas into the Union. The Arkansas Centennial Half Dollars ended up being issued during five separate years, across three different mints. The coins became controversial due to the stream of variations created specifically to market to collectors, as well as the escalating issue prices as mintage for later issues became smaller. The obverse design features the head of Liberty and a Native American in headdress. The centennial dates “1836” and “1936” appear, along with the inscription “Arkansas Centennial” below and “Liberty” on Liberty’s cap. Although this is now considered to be the obverse of the coin, there was initially some confusion and US Mint records and some references refer to this side as the reverse. In 1936, a new design was issued for this side of the coin, featuring a Senator who was living at the time of issue. The 1936 Robinson-Arkansas half dollar is considered a separate issue by most collectors. The reverse of the coin features the image of an eagle with wings spread, perched on the rising sun with rays emanating upwards. In the background a geometrical shape appears with the word “Arkansas” at center, amidst an arrangement of stars. The further inscriptions read “United States of America”, “In God We Trust”, “E Pluribus Unum”, “Half Dollar”, and the date of issue. Both the obverse and reverse design designed by Edward Everett Burr, following models prepared by Emily Bates. At the onset, the Arkansas Half Dollar was struck in a modest quantity of 13,012 pieces at the Philadelphia Mint with an additional 5,505 from Denver and 5,506 from San Francisco. This initial situation was a taste of things to come. This would also be the price of the 1939 sets. The centennial had been celebrated for a five year period including one year prior to the actual anniversary date. Arkansas Centennial Half Dollar Coin Specifications. It is graded by NGC MS-69. The above photos are stock photos that represent the quality of the item you will receive. The 2001 American Buffalo Silver Dollar is one of the most popular modern commemorative coins to have been issued by the United States Mint. The proof and uncirculated coins continue to be viewed as collector favorites and remain in high demand. The design for the coins is based on James Earle Fraser’s classic images which appeared on the Buffalo Nickel issued for circulation from 1913 to 1938. The obverse design features the profile portrait of a Native American in headdress that was created based on a composite of real life models. The reverse contains the iconic image of an American Bison or “Buffalo” on a mound. The commemorative coin program included both proof and uncirculated versions with a maximum mintage of 500,000 pieces across all product options. The proof coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint and contained the “P” mint mark on the reverse. The uncirculated coins were struck at the Denver Mint and contained the “D” mint mark. 1798 silver dollar BB-125, 4 berries, late die state die crack through C, holed
1798 silver dollar BB-125, 4 berries, late die state die crack through C, holed. OBVERSE: Stars on right very close to Y and bust. Long vertical die flaw in center of left obverse field (best seen on strong VF or better pieces). Rounded off bottom to 7. Die “dot” near edge between two denticles above left part of T in LIBERTY. 9 shows slight doubling at top. A crack from lower right part of E to hair. On the left, more space between stars 5 and 6 than between any others. On the right, more space between stars 8 and 9 than between any others. The obverse stars at the left gradually weaken from die failure, and examples can be found appearing to have only 12, 11-1/2, 11, 10-1/2, 10, or 9 stars. Obverse die used to strike 1795 BB-125 only. REVERSE: Only four berries, and these are large. The only four-berry reverse of the year. Star ray at eagle’s lower beak (only three arc-pattern reverse dies, those used to coin BB-116, BB-117, and BB-125 have the ray at beak); another ray of same star points to between B and U, closer to U. Right most star is misoriented and has two rays toward the top of the coin, instead of the normal vertical orientation of one ray pointing straight up and the other straight down, the only such skewing of a star on the reverse of a 1798 dollar. Nearby star under cloud 7 is considerably tilted. 12 arrows plus one detached head; two rightmost arrows are overlaid with other arrows, with heads part way down each shaft, as is another arrow near the middle; fifth arrow from right (on the third shaft from right, considering the doubling-up of the two right most arrows) is tiny and misformed. Light crack from border through upper left part of E in STATES. Point of leaf under left upright of I in AMERICA. The reverse is often weak, especially at the lower part of TED and at the right corner of the ribbon. Reverse die used to strike 1795 BB-125 only. Offered here is a 1926 Oregon Trail Commemorative Half Dollar. It is graded by NGC as MS-63. The coin in the above pictures is the one you will receive. Despite having one of the most beautiful design in the series, the Oregon Trail Half Dollar is usually cited as the best example of the abuses which began to take place within commemorative coin programs. The obverse of the Oregon Trail Half Dollar was designed by Laura Gardin Fraser. It features a covered wagon drawn by two oxen moving west, towards the setting sun. The inscription In God We Trust appears above with Oregon Trail Memorial and the date below. Officially, the US Mint states this as the obverse of the coin, although the designers of the coin and many collectors consider this the reverse of the coin. The other side of the coin was designed by James Earle Fraser. The full figure of a Native American in headdress is shown. He stands before a map of the United States with the Oregon Trail marked, with his left hand outstretched to the east and a bow in his right hand spanning the continent. The inscriptions read United States of America and Half Dollar. The maximum authorized mintage for the program was set at a lofty 6 million pieces, which was the largest authorization for commemorative coin thus far. Since the law authorizing the coins did not include a specific time frame or mint, the Association requested more coins struck in subsequent years and from different mints. Additional coins would be minted in 1928, 1933, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1938, and 1939, variously at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. All coins remain relatively accessible for collectors of today, despite some lower mintages. Some issues are available in exceptionally high grades at relatively affordable prices. The 1936 Cleveland Centennial Half Dollars were struck for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the city to coincide with the Great Lakes Exposition held on the shore of Lake Erie. The reverse design is particularly interesting for its creation of perspective on the surface of a flat coin. The maximum authorized mintage for the issue was 50,000 pieces. Initially half of this quantity was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. After additional demand was anticipated, the remaining 25,000 coins were ordered. These were also struck in the Philadelphia Mint, but with production taking place in 1937. Because of the stipulations of the authorizing legislation, these coins carried the same 1936 date and are indistinguishable from the earlier strikes. Designs for the Cleveland Half Dollars were created by Brenda Putman. The obverse features a left facing portrait of Moses Cleaveland, the founder of the city. Inscriptions read United States of America, Moses Cleaveland, Liberty and Half Dollar. The reverse depicts a map of the Great Lakes area with stars placed at the location of prominent cities. A compass appears above the map with the point at the slightly larger star representing Cleveland. Inscriptions read Great Lakes Exposition, 1836, 1936, Cleveland Centennial, In God We Trust, and E Pluribus Unum. With the entire maximum mintage produced at a single mint facility, the 1936 Cleveland Half Dollar remains readily available for present day collectors and affordable even into gem grades. Distracting contact marks will often be seen on the high points of the design, but with patience a pleasing specimen can be located. Cleveland Half Dollar Coin Specifications.
