Incredibly rare 1883 Proof Trade Dollar; NGC PR-60; but I was expecting an PR 63 back. Definitely an estate treasure worthy of at least sending to CAC hoping fot that CAC gold sticker. TOTAL Mintage was under one thousand of the proof trade dollars of 1883 (many of which were melted down), or spent, leaving most estimates around six hundred actual survivors, and many not in uncirculated Proof 60 or above. NGC states eight graded proof 60 and just 300+ higher at Ngc. Ive included a picture from NGC. Please note picture and certificate # matches mine. Estimated value is just under two thousand. The look of this coin very much changes due to the light it is viewed underneath. Definitely shows beautiful proof mirrors… But its not as if theyre on glass reflective mirrors like the original Titanic and I dont want to dip it, I love the patina – even as it hides the mirrors to some extent. Its like stunning stained glass is my view. Im old school and I know some love bright white silver no matter what but this century plus year old coin was born exactly 100 years after myself so it feels wrong to make it look like a baby again so to speak. Those who love bright white; I think youre right too you just differ in your perspective. A proper dip might bring the 63/64 grade I was looking for.
