1885-O Silver Morgan Dollar NGC MS65 Brown Label
MCM Picks: Memorial Day. 1885 O Silver Morgan Dollar NGC MS65 Brown Label SKU61613. Why order this 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar? The Morgan Silver Dollar Series is an important part of American history. A century after it was last struck, the series remains an important part of the American psyche. It helped to form a unified national identity for a nation that was violently divided in Civil War not long before the series began. This issue is particularly significant not only because it was struck in the 20th anniversary year of the end of the Civil War but also because it was struck at the New Orleans Mint, which was in a Confederate state. It bears that mint’s “O” mint mark on the reverse. Like other Morgans, this piece was struck from. Featuring the Patriotic Liberty Design of George T. Morgan broke from the long standing tradition of depicting Liberty as a Greek-style figure for his obverse design. Instead, he used Anna Willess Williams, an American style figure, as his model. Liberty looks to the left side of this face. On her head are a crown, a ribbon, and a Phrygian cap that identifies her as a freed slave. The crown is an important symbol of national unity as it is made from cotton and wheat, a Southern crop and a Northern one. The ribbon bears an inscription of her name, and the cap covers much of her long, curly hair. The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” arches over the image, while the date, “1885, ” is included below it. Connecting the two inscriptions are thirteen stars, which represent America’s original states. The reverse design features a heraldic eagle holding arrows and an olive branch. The olive branch expresses a desire for peace, but the arrows remind all that the country is prepared to defend her values. The eagle spreads its wings, and an open wreath partially encircles the bird from just under its wings. Between those wings is an inscription of the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. ” “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR note the name of the issuing country and the face value of the coin along the rim. This coin earned an uncirculated grade of Mint State 65 from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). That grade indicates that a coin was well struck and has no traces of wear. Don’t miss your chance to own this Silver 1885-O Morgan Dollar. Specifications for this 1885 O Silver Morgan Dollar NGC MS65 Brown Label SKU61613. Liberty facing left flanked by stars.
