Philadelphia, New Orleans, Carson City, Denver, San Francisco. The coinage law of 1873 made no allocation for the standard silver dollar. During this lapse in coinage of the one dollar denomination, the one dollar gold coin became the standard unit. The reboot of the silver dollar was put into effect by the Act of February 28, 1878. Morgan designed the new dollar design. His initial “M” is found on the truncation of the neck and back side of the coin, on the reverse side of the ribbon left-hand loop. In 1904 the production of the silver dollar was suspended. As demand was low and the supply was drained. Under the Pittman Act of 1918, many of the silver dollars were melted down. In 1921, the production of the silver dollar was resumed. The new “Peace” dollar design was adopted later that year. We appreciate your business!
