1964 Kennedy Half Dollar NGC PF67 Accented Hair With Stunning Mirror Cameo
As you all know, unfortunately in 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on film, and in broad public. As a way to try to memorialize our fallen Comander in Chief, in 1964 the US Mint started producing the Kennedy half dollar. These have quickly became a very loved and highly collected coin, especially considering that these 1964 coins have 90% silver in each coin! This lot will include ONE Kennedy Half Dollar, that has been graded by NGC at a PF67! The thing that makes this particular coin so special is that it features the rare Accented Hair variation, that only happened on a small number of coins, and only from this year! So I can assure you this will make a beautiful and unique addition to anyone’s collection! And on top of that, a PF67 is a nearly perfect coin! The scale only goes up to 70. And the cameo on this coin is one of the deepest I’ve ever seen! It’s literally a mirror level cameo! You can see a video of this coin, to show it’s insane cameo, by following my instagram page: CusicksCoins and looking at the posts there! So because this is in such exceptional condition, you can be sure it will continue to increase in value as time goes by!

The history of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar began with the announcement of a public competition to select a new design for the denomination. This was the direct result of Presidents Roosevelt? S discontent with circulating coin designs, which he had expressed a decade earlier. By 1916, all gold denominations had been replaced with more modernistic designs, and the cent and nickel had seen new designs introduced as well. The three silver denominations were the last of the 19th century designs to be replaced in the early 20th century. The prize winner for both the dime and half dollar was Adolph A. Weinman, a sculptor born in the south-German city of Karlsruhe in 1870. In the early 1880s, he and his mother immigrated to the United States, after which Weinman became a prominent sculptor in his new country. Before designing the two new coins, he had established a steady reputation, building on his experience as student of famous Augustus St. Before the first Walking Liberty Half Dollars were struck in late 1916, a number of different prototypes, or patterns, were struck on regular planchets. These are all extremely rare, although a number of them are described in the Judd and Pollock pattern texts. The main differences are the placement, size and font of the lettering, and minor modifications in the devices. No more than a few are known for each variety, with the majority residing within the Smithsonian collection. The finalized design, which was altered in various years to strengthen some design elements, is considered to be one of the most artistic of all United States coinage. On the obverse, a female figure representing Liberty is walking confidently forward. Her right hand is held open, as if in invitation, and her left hand holds a bouquet of olive branches. Is widely spaced is above, ? IN GOD WE TRUST? Is in the right field, and the date is below. The reverse features a stylistic eagle standing on a rock with the impression that it is ready to take flight. A mountain pine sapling is seen springing from the rock, symbolzing America. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA? Above the eagle, and the motto? In the right field. Are seen under the eagle? Over the years, the mintages, strike, and overall quality fluctuated widely. Chief Engraver Morgan strengthened the skirt lines in 1918, moderately improving the quality of striking but many examples struck afterward still exhibit weakly struck in areas. This is especially the case the centers on both sides and Liberty? Luster ranges from satiny to frosty. Overall, most Philadelphia issues are much better produced than the branch mint coins, although there are a few exceptions. Offered here is a 1937-D Oregon Trail Commemorative Half Dollar. It is graded by NGC as MS-65. The coin in the above pictures is the one you will receive. Despite having one of the most beautiful design in the series, the Oregon Trail Half Dollar is usually cited as the best example of the abuses which began to take place within commemorative coin programs. The obverse of the Oregon Trail Half Dollar was designed by Laura Gardin Fraser. It features a covered wagon drawn by two oxen moving west, towards the setting sun. In God We Trust? And the date below. Officially, the US Mint states this as the obverse of the coin, although the designers of the coin and many collectors consider this the reverse of the coin. The other side of the coin was designed by James Earle Fraser. The full figure of a Native American in headdress is shown. He stands before a map of the United States with the Oregon Trail marked, with his left hand outstretched to the east and a bow in his right hand spanning the continent. United States of America? The maximum authorized mintage for the program was set at a lofty 6 million pieces, which was the largest authorization for commemorative coin thus far. Since the law authorizing the coins did not include a specific time frame or mint, the Association requested more coins struck in subsequent years and from different mints. Additional coins would be minted in 1928, 1933, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1938, and 1939, variously at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. All coins remain relatively accessible for collectors of today, despite some lower mintages. Some issues are available in exceptionally high grades at relatively affordable prices.
